I bought the CX-CAS because it’s allowed on the SAT&AP exams, might as well use the best tool for the job!
But it’s not allowed on the ACT, so I bought an 84+CE
IT COST $250
BUT I WILL GO TO STANDARDIZED TEST VALHALLA, SHINY AND CHROME

$109 on Amazon

That’s what I did...
The CAS cost $146.40

Then sell it when you’re done.

Agreed. After the ACT I’m flipping it as the CAS whoops the 84’s ass so hard Sir MiX A lot can't handle it

You chose wrong. HP-48GX rpn is the only way to calculate!

I think I used a standard TI-30 on the SAT. To be honest, my biggest shortcoming was that I just plain didn’t learn a lot of the material in High School. I had to figure out how to do a lot of the math on my own. (I didn’t take Calc in HS)
Got a 1660 on my first, and only, try.
A friend got something like a 2200 or 2300. He was also taking all AP classes and was accepted to Harvard, Yale, and MIT. But he chose Purdue I believe, because it’s more affordable being in-state.

I used a Ti89 Titanium for the ACT and I don’t think it was allowed but no one said anything.
This was quite a few years ago though. Maybe they’re stricter now.

If you’re going to college (esp for sciences related), keep the 84. They won’t allow a CAS for any lower level math course (Calculus or not), and probably not for general physics etc. I have a nSpire CX CAS and a 84+ C Silver for this reason. nSpire is nicer to use due to layout that has the primary button uses be more sensible, but the 84+ with all the bells and whistles really isn’t much worse for normal use.

I'll be in Calc 2 in college. Will they be ok

Yes they are, to quote: “Use of a TI-89 graphing calculator is our biggest use of invalidation”.

Tell me how you like the 84+ CE! I’ve had a CX Cas since last year and it’s amazing. I wish I had the CX CAS when I took the AP Exams. Would’ve made Calc AB and BC so easy.

There is always one of you weird HP guys who shows up and ruins the party by doing everything backwards.

It’ll make my AP Physics C easier!

TI-86 FTW.

Don’t know what your comfort level with math is but you don’t really need anything more than the cheapest scientific calculator for most APs (besides Stats and maybe Physics, you don’t need it for calc)

I'm using it for Physics C

It’ll probably be Calc 4 before any teacher will be ok with a CAS. 84+ is ok everywhere, unless your teacher for a certain class doesn’t understand technology and is afraid of people storing information in a graphing calculator. My chemistry department did this, had to buy a $20 non-graphing TI that couldn’t even keep up with my typing speed just for the classes

WAIT. Are these the people whose calculators don't do Trig functions like TIs and Casios.

This one was manufactured in 1996, the last one I got about 5 or 6 years ago I had to buy used on Amazon. I’ve been using this exact same model since ahem... 1993.

I’m just going to assume these are the names of new BMW crossovers, given how convoluted they are.

I got a 1560 or something, writing and math were my weaker points. Not surprising tbh.

I just bought a TI-84CE the other day... not loving my year so far, and I’m 3 days in...

I got my TI84+CE for $90 at Target, which was $40 off the original price.

Por que?

Oops. Well I didn’t use it much because math and science were my strongest sections anyway.
I also took both the AP physics C tests (I think you said you are going to), and even on those the CAS functionality didn’t come into play much if I recall correctly.
The 89 Titanium really helped with AP Calc BC though...

They Don’t allow the TI 84 on the SAT and the AP exams anymore? that’s what a lot of people used when I took those exams in 2010/2011. Perfectly fine for us.
